Session 3 – Using Questions to Host Meaningful Conversations

Tuesday, October 4th from 12-2pm EST

How people learn about issues, participate in decisions, and work together is critically important to achieve the impact we seek. The process affects whether and how ongoing action happens. Strategic questions are a core skill and tool to design and facilitate conversations, gatherings, and larger initiatives. In this workshop, you’ll learn:

  • How to design participatory meetings and use questions as “banks of the river” to guide the conversations.
  • Specific participatory methods for hosting conversations and “harvesting” what you heard.

Fee to attend: $90 for a single session

Beth Tener is the facilitator. She has trained hundreds of people in how to use strategic questions in their work. She brings real-life stories and examples to each workshop from her work using these approaches with over 200 teams, organizations, and collaborative networks. You can read more in these blogs: Strategic Questions.

(If this fee is a barrier to participating, please email Beth. We can offer scholarships to make this accessible to all interested.)

Here’s what previous participants had to say:

Strategic questioning is a life skill worth mastering. It has the power to truly transform dialogue. Although I took the course for professional development, it’s been immensely valuable on the personal front as well. It doesn’t come naturally to most people, and Beth is an exceptional teacher. I highly recommend this workshop! – Sarah

Just wanted to say thanks for hosting a terrific series of Strategic Questioning workshops–one of the best on-line experiences I’ve had recently. The pacing was just right, with a good balance of teaching and small-group work, which allowed everyone to bring in their own contexts and challenges. It was especially nice to be in conversation with such a great group of people over time–the continuity really deepened my learning, and the diversity of backgrounds provoked lots of thought. The follow-up materials were very helpful, and I appreciated your responsiveness to my specific questions. – Rick

Beth’s strategic questioning courses open new windows into thinking about how to be an effective facilitator. Understanding and practicing how a carefully crafted question can focus a discussion is an immensely helpful skill. As someone who designs and facilitates group meetings, I was able to apply the course material in my own work right away. I followed up with an individual coaching session with Beth to receive some additional help on strategic questions that I was grappling with. Both the individual coaching and course sessions were very helpful in refining my work and Beth is a great thought partner. – Courtney
